Pediatrics Critical Care

Hearing that your child is in need of critical or intensive care can be very scary and cause some uneasy feelings. At Banner Children’s, we understand that. That’s why we are dedicated to providing your child with the special care they need to get better while also providing you and your family with the support you need.

Our Banner Children’s pediatric and neonatal intensive care units specialize in the care of critically sick or injured infants, children and teenagers. Our specially trained pediatric intensive care teams provide compassionate, individualized care to our smallest patients to get them back to feeling healthy – so they can get back to being kids!

Neonatal Intensive Care

Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) provide care for the tiniest and often most fragile patients with advanced technology and personal attention.

At Banner Children’s, we know that the birth of a child is one of the most exciting experiences in a family’s life. We want to make sure all families experience the happiness and excitement that comes with a new baby, even when complications require that baby to be hospitalized for continuing care.

Our Banner Children’s NICUs are dedicated to nurturing the most critically ill babies and their families through individualized care that centers on family support. Find them at:

Each baby has unique needs, which is why very premature babies in our NICU may have an individualized plan of care that evaluates the baby’s unique strengths and challenges. A specially-trained developmental specialist will partner with your family and other caregivers to make hospitalization less stressful for both the baby and you.

Multidisciplinary Care

Babies in our Banner Children’s NICUs are cared for by a multidisciplinary team that includes neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and NICU trained nurses.

Other care providers you might meet during your child’s NICU stay include:

  • Respiratory therapists
  • Case management workers
  • Occupational therapists
  • Nutrition experts
  • Speech therapists
  • Lactation specialists
  • Pediatric specialists
  • Developmental care specialists

Our multidisciplinary approach ensures the highest quality care for the fragile newborn and family. This team assists families in their transition out of the hospital with follow up services, including developmental programs, to ensure your baby’s healthy development.

Pediatric Intensive Care

Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) provide care for critically ill children, from infants through adolescents. While they have all of the specialized monitoring equipment found in adult intensive care units, our Banner Children’s PICUs offers family-centered care in child-friendly environments that help children and their families feel more at ease.

At Banner Children’s, our highly-skilled, dedicated PICU team includes doctors, pediatric specialists, nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians, social workers and child life specialists.

Banner Children’s is here to help during these times in your child’s life. Trust the experts to get life back to normal.
