Seasonal food, heat and utility resources

Arizona families may need extra support during the summer months. These resources can help with food, cooling centers and utility assistance:

  • Summer meals for kids and teens: Text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304 to find free summer meal sites near you.
  • SUN Bucks/Summer EBT: Grocery benefits may be available for eligible school-age children when school is out for summer.
  • HEAT.AZ.gov: Find statewide heat safety information and cooling resources.
  • Heat Relief Network: Find cooling centers, hydration stations and respite centers in Maricopa County.
  • LIHEAP: Utility bill assistance may be available for eligible households.
  • 211 Arizona: Call 211 for help finding food, housing, utility assistance, crisis support and other local resources.

Home Visiting Resources

  • Strong Families AZ - Offers a network of free home visiting programs that helps families raise healthy children ready to succeed in school and in life. These programs focus on pregnant women and families with children birth to age 5. Search using your zip code to find programs servicing your area. 
  • Early Head Start - Free program for children under 5 yo.  Head Start (for children 3-5) and Early Head Start (pregnant women and children 0-3) has a variety of program and service delivery options including Center Base, Home-Base, Combination (Home & Center) or Family Child Care.  Each program incorporates an individualized approach to high-quality services for low-income pregnant women and children age birth to five. Families receive support and guidance from Head Start staff to become self-sufficient. A part of Strong Families.
  • Parents As Teachers - A free program for all parents with children younger than 5 years old. Your children have so much potential. As a parent, you have a unique opportunity to be their first teacher. That’s because most brain development occurs in the first few years of life, and you can make a difference. Parents As Teachers will show you how. Our Home Visitors will provide you with resources appropriate for your child’s stage of development. Through Parents As Teachers, you’ll develop a stronger relationship with your child and help prepare them for academic success. A part of Strong Families.
  • Family Spirit - The Family Spirit Program is a culturally tailored home-visiting intervention delivered by Native American paraprofessionals as a core strategy to support young Native parents from pregnancy to 3 years post-partum. Parents gain knowledge and skills to achieve optimum development for their preschool age children across the domains of physical, cognitive, social-emotional, language learning, and self-help. A part of Strong Families.
  • Healthy Families Arizona - Designed to help expectant and new parents get their children off to a healthy start. Everyone who is having a baby can feel overwhelmed. It’s important to know that it’s ok to ask for help, especially if you’re experiencing a number of challenges. Healthy Families Arizona is a free program that helps mothers and fathers become the best parents they can be. A Home Visitor will get to know you and connect you with services based on your specific situation.  A part of Strong Families.
  • Safe Care - For families under 5 years old Let professional and highly trained home visitors support you and your family on your journey to success.  Utilizing the nationally recognized SafeCare model, you will receive weekly visits that are divided into core focus areas:  parent-child interaction, health and home safety.  In each focus area or module, you will build on and strengthen your skills through a variety of interactive sessions. A part of Strong Families.
  • The Parenting Brief - A podcast for parents featuring tips from fellow parents and the latest insights from childhood experts. Addresses pregnant women and parents of kids 0-5 and hosted by mom and early childhood development expert, Jessica Stewart-Gonzalez. You got this, mom!
  • Parent Partners Plus - Staff members connect families with programming and services that help support parents as their child's first teacher! Partnering services include Early Headstart, Fussy Baby Program, AZ Health Start Program, Healthy Families Arizona, South Phoenix Healthy Start, High Risk Perinatal Program, Nurse-Family Partnership, Parents as Teachers, Side By Side, and Smooth Way Home.
  • Southwest Human Development - Services families with children age 0-5 to improve lives and help families by supporting young children and their caregivers during this important time. Offers child development programs; early literacy programs; disabilities and mental health services; family support and child welfare; head start and early head start; and training for parents and caregivers.
  • Arizona's Children Association - Provides a specifically tailored continuum of services to children and families in need including foster care and adoption services; kinship services; behavior health and trauma response; family preservation and reunification; family education; and young adult services.

Perinatal Support Services

  • Child Health Information & Breastfeeding Helplines
    • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Helplines:1 (800) 833-4642 - Get answers to your Breastfeeding questions 24 hours a day by calling the Arizona Department of Health Services 24 Hour Breastfeeding Helpline.
    • Women and Children's Health Information Center: 1 (800) 232-1676 Offers information about pregnancy test sites, low cost providers and other health resources for women. In addition, information about immunizations, home visiting programs, dental care, car seat programs, injury prevention, food and diaper banks and other resources for children and youth under the age of 21 including children with special health care needs.
    • Arizona (WIC) Helpline: 1 (800) 252-5942 Find out if you are eligible. WIC is a free nutrition and breastfeeding program that provides healthy foods and helps the whole family, learn about eating well and staying healthy.
  • Nurse-Family Partnership - A free, evidence-based program designed to help pregnant women become successful, self-reliant mothers.  For first time mothers less than 28 weeks pregnant. Children don’t come with an instructional guide. So it’s only normal that new mothers face challenges and doubt. In times like these, someone is here to help you. Nurse-Family Partnership is a community healthcare program that will connect you with a nurse home visitor. Through the visits, you will learn how you can best care for your child.   • Arizona Health Start - If you are pregnant or a mother facing challenges, it’s important to know that someone can help you. Arizona Health Start is here to help. Our home visitors can connect you with a variety of community organizations that provide health care, education, parenting resources, and application assistance for other programs. We will get to know you and your family, so we can help you get the resources you need. We understand your culture, because we live in your community. We also understand what you’re going through, because we’ve helped families just like yours. A part of Strong Families.

Children with Disabilities and Special Needs Resources

  • Raising Special Kids - Training and information to parents to help them understand their rights, roles, and responsibilities in their child’s health care and education. Parents who understand the processes and systems of support are more able to participate effectively in meetings and on teams.
  • Smooth Way Home - Fragile Infant Project to improve the social, developmental and medical outcomes of very fragile infants by enhancing the coordination of care and the quality of services provided to them as they transition from the newborn intensive care unit back to their home and community.

Parenting Education

  • Casa de Los Ninos - Offers the Family Nurturing Program free of charge in Tucson. These are a family-centered trauma-informed initiative designed to build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to abusive and neglecting parenting and child-rearing practices. 
  • CARE Coalition - The CARE Coalition (Community Alliance for Resources and Education) is a group of collaborating community members, youth, local agencies, schools, and other invested individuals that aim to improve the health and well-being of adolescents in the West Valley. 
  • Child Crisis Arizona - Prevention, intervention and education programs designed to support the thousands of children and families who may be at risk. Assists with emergency children shelter, foster care and adoption, early education services, counseling, and classes and workshops.   
  • Birth to Five Helpline - A free service. Help is available by phone, text, & e-mail. Open to all Arizona families with young children looking for the latest child development information from early childhood experts in the field. Professionals may also take advantage of this service.
  • Birth to Five Helpline App - Download from the Apple Store or Google Play.
  • Fussy Baby Program - The Fussy Baby program is a component of the Birth to Five Helpline and provides support for parents who are concerned about their baby’s development during the first year of life. Fussy Baby clinicians work with families to explore ways to soothe, care for, and enjoy your baby. Experts also offer ways to reduce stress while supporting you in your important role as a parent. Services of the Fussy Baby Program are provided in-home for families residing in Maricopa County, by telephone or through virtual video consultation statewide.
  • Touchstone Health Services: (866) 207-3882 or (833) 855- 0951 - The premier provider of home, center-based, community, school, and evidence-based programs in the Southwest. They provide positive family strengthening resources to youth-at-risk and youth-in-need.  Touchstone’s programs help families find strategies and services to become more effective in addressing behaviors and encourages the youth and families’ success for the long-term. Touchstone programs include prevention, school-based services, Outpatient Therapy Services, Multisystemic Therapy for Problem Sexual Behaviors, Care Coordination/High-Needs Care Coordination, Infant and Early Childhood Program, Intensive Outpatient Substance Use, Psychiatric Services, Behavior Analytic Services (BAS) – Autism Center of Excellence (COE), Whatever It Takes (WIT) Program, Respite, Health Promotion Program.
  • Triple P Arizona - Provided parents the skills to raise confident, healthy children and teenagers, and to build stronger family relationships. It also helps parents manage misbehavior and prevent child rearing problems occurring in the first place.
  • Sesame Street Communities - Parents and caregivers like you are the foundations for children’s healthy development. You keep them healthy, provide learning opportunities, and help them face challenges big and small. Sesame Street in Communities is here to support you in that huge and all-important effort. Here you’ll find tons of multi-media tools in both English and Spanish designed for children from birth to six, a period when brains are developing rapidly and your nurturing interaction makes a lasting difference. Our videos, activities, printable tools and digital interactives feature our friendly, furry Muppets and help you playfully, meaningfully engage with kids during everyday moments. The site covers a wide range of topics, from school readiness to building healthy habits to tough issues such as divorce and hunger.
  • Sesame Street for Military Families - A free, bilingual (English and Spanish) website where families can find information and multimedia resources on the topics of military deployments, multiple deployments, homecomings, injuries, grief and self-expression.
  • MotherToBaby Arizona - Provides information about the safety of medications and other exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Is part of the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. Safe Sleep

  • The Banner CARE Team and Trauma Education created videos to help you create a safe environment for your children in and around the home; info includes Safe-Sleep, Kitchen, Bathroom & Furniture Safety as well as Car, Water, & Sun Safety. View our videos.
  • HealthyChildren.org - To reduce the risk of all sleep-related infant deaths, the AAP revised the policy statement and technical report on safe sleep. This updates the 2016 guidance and includes additional ways to reduce the risk of SIDS, as well as some new recommendations. Also available in Spanish.
  • Safe sleep Academy - They offer families print, video, and community resources to keep young infants and children safe in the home and when sleeping so parents can rest easier.

Community Resource Service

  • AZ 211 - Community information and referral services. 2-1-1 Arizona Information and Referral Service operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week and every day of the year. Live-operator service is available at all times in English and Spanish and assistance is available in other languages via real-time interpreter services. 2-1-1 Arizona operators will help individuals and families find resources that are available to them locally, throughout the state, and provide connections to critical services that can improve and save lives. Child Care Resources

  • AZ Childcare Resource and Referral - Choosing childcare is one of the most important decisions you can make, but all too often they must rely on word-of-mouth. Child Care Resource and Referral helps take the guesswork by providing information about local childcare programs, state licensing rules and regulations (requirements), availability of childcare subsidies and quality childcare indicators. Guidance available by phone, in person, and in other ways, such as the internet.

Early Intervention Resources

  • Arizona Head Start Association -  Assists families in locating Head Start (for children 3-5) and Early Head Start (pregnant women and children 0-3) programs.
  • Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) - Arizona’s statewide interagency system of services and supports for families of infants and toddlers, birth to three years of age, with disabilities or delays.
  • AZ Child Find - Child-Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA ’04) that requires Public Education Agencies (PEA) to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth through 21, located within their boundaries of responsibility who are in need of early intervention or special education services.
  • Healthy Steps - This program provides early childhood development support to families where they are most likely to access it – the pediatric primary care office.

Family Shelter Resources

  • Family Housing Hub - Helps families with children under 18 years old who are at risk of or are currently experiencing homelessness. Our goal is to help families identify existing resources available for immediate housing. The FH-HUB creates housing plans that include current and future stability, income and housing community resources as well as a connection to homeless services, including emergency shelter, depending on eligibility and availability.
  • Maricopa Homeless Services - Assists families in finding resources available for immediate housing throughout Maricopa County. Hand in Hand Street Outreach is offering outreach services to people experiencing homelessness in unincorporated and targeted communities of Maricopa County.

Postpartum support resources

Postpartum Support International - Promotes awareness, education, prevention, and treatment of perinatal mental health issues affecting mothers, their families, and support systems in all areas of Arizona.

Domestic Violence Resources

  • Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence - The Arizona Sexual and Domestic Violence Bilingual Helpline provides services to victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence, friends, family, neighbors and other concerned individuals who are calling on behalf of survivors of sexual or domestic violence or are looking for ways to assist a survivor or professionals who are working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, such as case managers, advocates, attorneys, medical personnel, teachers, counselors, and law enforcement.   • Camp Hope America - This program is the leading year-round camping and mentoring program in the country for children and teens impacted by domestic violence. We are focused on creating hope and healing-centered pathways through collaborative, trauma-informed care for youth exposed to trauma to believe in themselves, in others and their dreams.
  • Verizon Wireless Hopeline - Provides free cell phones & service to victims of DV/IPV.

Substance Abuse Resources

  • Banner University Women’s Institute - Individuals with substance use disorder are able to receive treatment from addiction medicine providers collocated with primary care and behavioral health providers.  The collaborative approach improves a person’s overall care and retention in recovery.  We see patients who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant at the Banner University Women’s Institute at 1441 N. 12th St. 3rd Floor, Phoenix, Arizona 85006 (602) 527- 5700.
  • Banner Addiction Recovery Center - The goal of the Banner Addiction Recovery Center is to lower individual and community impact related to substance use through compassionate and evidenced-based substance use treatment. Through education, community outreach and advocacy, we aim to lower the stigma and support colleagues in the care of their patients, as well as increase the number of confident and knowledgeable health care professionals.   • The Barbell Saves Project: (602) 536-8003 - Free community- based fitness classes for individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Community Medical Services: (855) 203-6352 - Community Medical Services is an opioid treatment program (OTP) different from all the rest, with a compassionate approach to care that goes beyond medication. Since 1983, Community Medical Services (CMS) has been at the forefront of evidence-based practices, providing outpatient medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) along with counseling and peer support services. Our roots in Phoenix, Arizona, have blossomed into more than 70 clinics across multiple states, including the country’s first 24-hour Opioid Treatment on Demand (OTOD) center in Phoenix.
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or call 1 (800) 662-4357 - The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration collects information on thousands of state-licensed providers who specialize in treating substance use disorders, addiction, and mental illness.

Substance Exposed Infant Resources

  • Hushabye Nursery: (480) 628-7500 - Hushabye Nursery offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies – from conception through childhood – can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services and outpatient therapies.
  • Jacobs Hope - Jacob’s Hope is a dedicated and compassionate nonprofit organization that provides crucial support to substance-exposed newborns and prenatal care to mothers in need. Our mission is to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for both mother and child during this critical phase of their lives. With a deep commitment to Eat, Sleep, and Console, we have transformed our facility to better support families during a critical point in their lives. Jacob’s Hope provides 24-hour care to substance exposed newborns and support to moms on the path to recovery, for a happy and healthy life. Our Family Support Program Includes: Hope Notes Course for expectant Moms, Parenting Classes, Referral and partner with housing nonprofits, medically assisted treatment centers (MAT), drug rehabilitation programs and other supportive organizations, Room-in suite for mom or caregiver; Eat, Sleep, and Console, Help with DCS case plan, and a Nonjudgemental environment.
  • Maricopa County Shift: (602) 526-6116 - Maricopa SHIFT (Safe Healthy Infants and Families Thrive), is a coordinated, multi-system approach, working together to improve the outcomes for pregnant parents, their families, and affected newborns exposed to substances. Our team understands that parents and families need support and integrated services to help them and their baby have the best outcome possible. We bring together programs and teams from a variety of disciplines including, prenatal care, medication-assisted treatment programs, Women, Infants and Children (WIC), child welfare, home visiting programs, and other medical providers such as hospitals and clinics.

Behavioral Health Resources 

  • AZ Statewide Crisis Hotline, Suicide and Crisis Hotlines by County and Tribal Nation Crisis Hotlines: (844) 534-4673 or text the crisis text line at 4HOPE or chat with a crisis specialist 24/7 crisis phone lines, mobile teams available. Offering Psychiatric urgent care, observation and stabilization, inpatient facilities, and other facility-based stabilization services. Crisis services are intended to stabilize an individual or prevent a sudden, unanticipated, or potentially dangerous behavioral health condition, episode, or behavior. Services are available to anyone in Arizona regardless of insurance coverage.
  • ADHS - 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline - 24/7 call, text, and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance-related, and/or mental health crises, or any other emotional distress. You can also dial 988 if you’re worried about a loved one who may need support. Crisis services are available to any Arizona resident, regardless of health insurance coverage.
  • Crisis Preparation + Recovery (CPR): (480) 518-9853 - Crisis Preparation and Recovery, Inc. (CPR) is an Arizona state-licensed, Title XIX-certified behavioral health outpatient, medication, and crisis services company providing innovative, effective, and compassionate service since 1995. We are a unique, diverse company that is not only dedicated to helping individuals and organizations survive, but thrive. CPR’s highly trained, experienced professionals help us meet a variety of needs, be they individual, business, school, government, or hospital. CPR offers a variety of services including outpatient counseling, medication management, crisis interventions, transitional care, SMI evaluations, CISM trainings, and disaster/crisis management consulting.   • M.I.K.I.D: 1 (844) 805-2080 - M.I.K.I.D.’s mission is to improve the behavioral health and wellness of children and youth through a family-centered approach. We employ over 150 professionally trained staff offering an array of services to families of children with emotional and behavioral challenges. M.I.K.I.D. provides education, resources, and support throughout Arizona and, most recently, Colorado. Our programs focus on developing skills, networks, and readiness to manage their own physical and mental health for the youth and their families. This is accomplished through M.I.K.I.D. staff providing one-on-one family support, transitional age youth services, peer support, health promotion, support groups, training, and education, both individual and community-based living skills, respite, and connecting families and individuals with natural supports in the community. Our services include youth 0-25 years old who have mental health issues. M.I.K.I.D. services are unique in that the staff providing many of these services are family members, parents, and young adults who have personal lived experience in dealing with behavioral health needs. We require all staff who provide services to the parents we serve to have lived experience.  M.I.K.I.D. focuses on supporting and educating youth and families with developing coping skills.

Our outpatient services provide comprehensive support for individuals and families facing mental health and substance use challenges. We offer a variety of therapeutic interventions and resources tailored to your unique needs, whether you are looking for help, follow-up care after inpatient treatment, or ongoing management of your well-being.
  • Terros Health - Terros Health is a health care company focused on the whole person, providing primary care and specializing in mental health and substance use treatment for over 50 years. Services include adult and child behavioral healthcare, crisis intervention, substance abuse treatment, primary medical care, and STI/HIV testing and services.
  • Community Health Center | Valle del Sol: (602) 258-6797 - Valle del Sol offers an integrated approach to healthcare. Primary healthcare services are offered for children and adults, in addition to behavioral health services. Combining primary care and mental health services allows an integrated health care team to treat the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Valle del Sol's youth groups are now open for both in-person and virtual services! All services include group, individual, and family therapy. We are now offering the following programs LGBTQIA – Youth 13-17: A supportive space for LGBTQIA youth to explore their identities and build resilience, IOPMH – Youth 13-17: Intensive Outpatient Mental Health services providing comprehensive care for youth facing significant mental health challenges, DBT – Youth 13-17: Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help teens develop coping strategies and emotional regulation and Pre-DBT – Youth 10-13: An introductory program to DBT, tailored for younger children to build foundational skills. Financial Assistance

  • Child & Family - They help families meet their basic needs for well-being and safety and serves as their path to self-sufficiency. Services include Cash Assistance, Child Support, Child Care, & Short-Term Crisis.
  • AZ DES Child Support Services - They provide services to parents and caretakers who receive child support as well as parents who pay child support. Some of the services include obtaining a child support order, collecting child, medical and spousal support from parents who have a court order, and helping unwed parents establish paternity for their child.

Food Assistance

  • Arizona Food Bank Network - The Arizona Food Bank Network (AzFBN) is a coalition of 5 regional food banks and nearly 1,000 food pantries and agencies, working together to address hunger in Arizona.
  • AZ DES Apply for Nutrition Assistance Benefits - Nutrition Assistance supports families to prevent under-nutrition in Arizona. The information on this page will help you prepare and apply for benefits.
  • AZ DHS Women Infants Children - The Arizona Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides nutrition education and breastfeeding support services, supplemental nutritious foods and referrals to health and social services. WIC serves pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women; infants; and children under the age of five.

Family/Foster Care Support Resources

  • The Foster Alliance: (480) 889-0604 - We exist to make it easier for families to open their homes to a child. By providing essentials like socks, shoes, and even birthday gifts we help ensure that every child on a foster journey thrives. The Foster Alliance (TFA) provides items through their Safe Sleep, Essential Resources, Birthday Dreams, Licensing and Safety, Back to School, and Holiday Toy Fest programs. The Foster Alliance (TFA) is excited to continue to provide new backpacks with grade-appropriate school supplies to children in foster care entering preschool through high school. Additionally, foster families with children in foster care can select clothing for school. We are proud to team up with foster families and advocates to ensure all foster children receive the birthday celebration they deserve through Birthday Dream Gifts.   • 4th Trimester Arizona: (480)-269-1639 - We are an organization of families, health professionals, educators and local businesses that honors, supports and empowers all families of Arizona during their transition to parenthood and beyond. We do this through the production of community events, such as support groups, as well as the 4th Trimester Conference, a gathering of over 50 community organizations and over 300 attendees, offering Arizona families a full day of workshops, safe space for connection around sensitive topics, panel discussions, free access to wellness services, baby & me bonding activities, art, and an entire track just for Dads/Partners, all created to foster community collaboration, education, and access to local resources.

  • Child Crisis Arizona - Child Crisis: (480) 834-9424 - Child Crisis Arizona provides emergency shelter, foster care, adoption, counseling, early education, and parenting support services to Arizona’s most vulnerable children, youth and families.

  • Casa de Los Ninos Tucson - Offers the Family Nurturing Program free of charge – These are a family-centered trauma-informed initiative designed to build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to abusive and neglecting parenting and child-rearing practices. 
  • Healthy Steps - This program provides early childhood development support to families where they are most likely to access it – the pediatric primary care office. 
  • Help Me Grow - Supports pregnant women, caregivers with new babies, and families with young children with developmental delays and disabilities. Services and supports provided through home visiting and early intervention.
