Education is the foundation for success in life, and Banner wants to ensure that kids don’t get behind in school just because they are sick or have learning challenges. The education programs listed below address the special needs of these two student populations.
Banner Children’s Hospital School
A staff of experienced, certified teachers offers onsite classroom or bedside teaching to help kids keep up with their studies while in the hospital.
A nationally accredited private school, Banner Academy helps students with emotional and learning challenges achieve their full potential.
At Banner, we take a holistic approach to patient care, integrating complementary therapies with standard medical treatments to heal patients in body, mind and spirit.
The BIG Outside
The BIG Outside is a planned outdoor play space and healing garden at Cardon Children's Medical Center. When completed in 2017, it will allow pediatric patients and their families to get outside the hospital for brief periods to run, play and explore in the fresh air and sunshine.
Board-certified music therapists use music to help young patients deal with being sick and in the hospital. These therapy sessions can help manage pain, reduce stress and even boost immune-system functioning.
Child Life & Play Rooms
Child life specialists use medical and therapeutic play to help kids understand and process what’s happening to them in the hospital, which can help decrease pain, meet treatment goals and shorten recovery time.
A visit to the toy closet can be one of the best forms of medicine for a child in the hospital. After a treatment or procedure, children get to choose a toy from the closet as a reward for their bravery.
Banner also offers a number of outreach programs designed to keep kids safe, healthy and out of the hospital.
Children’s Bereavement Camp
Twice a year, Banner Hospice offers a weekend camp in the cool pines of Payson to help children and families cope with the loss of a loved one. The program is open to the community and free of charge.
Banner Children’s Injury Prevention program provides information on preventable injuries and deaths for children. Our safety advocates visit schools, church and community groups, as well as health fairs and safety fairs, to give the community easy-to-follow advice about being safe.
Banner Children's Community Clinics
Our community clinics and healthmobile provide free primary health care services to children without insurance or other access to medical care.
