Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship

Marge (Nemeth) Schafer moved to Loveland in 1975 after completing a BSN at Arizona State University and working at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. She worked at Loveland Memorial Hospital in ICU, and continued working in ICU after the move to McKee Medical Center. In 1977, Marge, along with Dr. Fred Pashkow and his wife, Peg, started the Loveland HeartWatchers Cardiac Rehab Program.

She completed a Masters in Nursing Administration in 1989 and taught at UNC as a clinical instructor in Medical Surgical Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing. That same year, Marge also joined the Navy Reserve Nurse Corp. In 1993, Marge completed a Master's program in Primary Care of the Adult at the University of Colorado and joined her husband's practice as a Nurse Practitioner until her retirement in 2000.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship Fund was established in November 2014. Donald and Marge Schafer decided to contribute to it as well. Many beneficiaries of McKee Scholarships choose to work at McKee Medical Center after they have completed their educations. These individuals are very dedicated to providing excellent patient care and that benefits everyone in the Loveland area.
