Athletic Training Program

For athletes, the prevention of injuries and rehabilitation can be key factors in developing or enhancing performance. At Banner Health, we provide specialized athletic training to ensure everyone can compete at their highest ability.

What Is Athletic Training?

Athletic training services are designed to prevent injury or reinjury and keep athletes safe on their field of play. It includes teaching injury prevention techniques as well as examining, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating acute or chronic injuries or conditions.

A Banner Health athletic trainer is a highly trained health care professional who specializes in injuries to athletes of all ages and abilities.

Our trainers work closely with physicians, athletic directors and coaches to optimize your participation in sports and daily life. We work with high school sports programs, both on- and off-site. For college teams, Banner Health can assist your sports department and be available to travel to away games. At the professional level, we can provide support with physical therapists and/or athletic trainers.

What to Expect from the Athletic Training Program

Athletic training programs can vary depending on your needs and if you have a specific type of injury. Services typically provided by an athletic trainer include:

  • Manual therapy - physical manipulation of muscles and/or joints
  • Athletic training exercises to improve strength, flexibility, endurance or speed
  • Exercises to improve balance or coordination
  • Agility training
  • Modalities such as hot or cold packs, electrical stimulation, traction and biofeedback
