What Is Anal Cancer?

Anal cancer is a disease in which malignant cancer cells form in the tissues of the anus or anal canal, the short tube at the end of your digestive tract. It is a relatively uncommon cancer type. But, because most anal cancers are related to the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, a sexually transmitted disease, anal cancer diagnosis rates are increasing. It is more prevalent among women than men and early detection is a key factor in successfully treating anal cancer.
