Banner Thunderbird Celebrates Milestone of 15,000 Robotic Surgical Cases

On September 15th, the hospital will be celebrating the accomplishments as a leader in the community it serves

GLENDALE, AZ (September 6, 2023) - Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is proud to announce and celebrate a significant achievement. As of July of this year, Banner Thunderbird’s robotic surgery program has successfully performed over 15,000 robotic surgical procedures, marking a momentous milestone for the hospital and the community it serves.

Banner Thunderbird is currently at the top 3% in the nation, the 8th highest in total historical procedures in the Western region, and 3rd highest in the state of Arizona for robotic procedures. Running up to 4 robotic rooms, 65-70% of their case load is general surgeries, with an emphasis on hernia repairs. 30-35% of the case load is Gynecology/Oncology and Urology, performing Hysterectomies and Prostatectomies. This groundbreaking approach revolutionized the field, offering patients minimally invasive surgery options with reduced pain, faster recovery times, and increased precision.

On September 15th, the hospital will be celebrating the accomplishments as a leader in the community it serves. Through their commitment to continuous improvement, they have not only achieved this extraordinary milestone but have also solidified their position as pioneers in robotic surgical procedures across a wide range of specialties.

Patel, Medical Director at Banner Thunderbird expressed his gratitude for the hospital's continued success in robotic surgery: " “We look forward to caring for patients in the future, and are grateful for the surgeons and staff who have contributed in making Banner Thunderbird a successful facility for robotics”.
