Somos Banner Health Series: Dr. Dayana Dominguez Batista -Pediatric Pulmonology, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Sept. 15, 2023) - Dr. Dayana Dominguez Batista made the bold decision to leave her beloved Cuba seven years ago in pursuit of her dreams. With a background in medicine, she knew she wanted to further her education and decided to pursue her master's degree in the United States.

Now, she is proud to work at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center as a pediatric pulmonologist. One of the reasons Dr. Dominguez loves working for Banner is that many of her team members come from diverse backgrounds which allows her to connect with them in both Spanish and English. This sense of camaraderie is important as it reminds her of the tight-knit Cuban community she left behind.

One thing she misses about Cuba are the people. She remembers how the Cuban people are always willing to go the extra mile to help others, regardless of whether they are locals or tourists. Their creativity and determination also stand out to her – if Cubans have a dream, they will stop at nothing to achieve it.

“Being able to work alongside individuals from various backgrounds not only enriches my personal growth but also enables me to provide the best care possible to patients”-said Dr. Dominguez. “I am fortunate to be part of a community that welcomes and appreciates different perspectives.”

Despite not having relatives in Arizona, Dr. Dominguez feels at home in the Grand Canyon state and says she is incredibly fortunate to have made friends along her journey, who have become her new family.
