Phoenix family welcomes baby boy early on New Year's at Banner hospital

Baby Joaquin born via C-section after midnight at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix

PHOENIX (Jan. 1, 2022) – A Phoenix family is celebrating the new year with the birth of a healthy baby boy who arrived soon after midnight.

Thirty-three-year-old Karina Vela gave birth to adorable Joaquin Raul Robledo Jr. at 12:47 a.m. at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.

Joaquin weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces and came into the world through C-section delivery, four days earlier than planned.

His mom and dad, Joaquin Robledo, 33, are excited to soon introduce the newborn to his sister, 13-month-old Emma Robledo.

“I started having contractions last night, and didn’t even think about the time (being so close to the new year),” Vela said.

Joaquin is one of the first babies born at a Banner hospital in the Valley on New Year’s. “I am shook right now. It feels great to know that,” Vela said.
