(October 13, 2022) – Banner Health was recognized as an outstanding employer in northern Colorado by the Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development team for their contribution to youth development over the past summer during the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Award Ceremony held Oct. 10, 2022, in Castle Rock, CO. Banner offers a robust internship program as well as unique externships and apprenticeships to help facilitate learning and growth opportunities for young professionals in northern Colorado.
As Colorado’s longest-running and most successful youth employment program, the Governor's Summer Job Hunt connects tens of thousands of high school and college students with Colorado employers willing to help teach and develop professional and technical skills for youth in the community. Holly Werner, senior human resources consultant at Banner, and Phoebe Stalker, campus engagement specialist at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, were both critical partners in the program.

Banner has been, and continues to be, an example that we hold up to our other health care providers for work-based learning engagement in the community.”
“Phoebe, your openness and willingness to support a career-exploration day idea and move it into execution for internship applicants who did not get an internship opportunity was much needed and appreciated,” CareerRise added. “Those students who participated were still able to get experience within a health care facility and were able to gain health care knowledge. And it netted you some employees! This is a meaningful model that will be carried forward in the future.”
“The best employers understand that giving a young person a summer job is an investment in tomorrow’s workforce,” Joe Barela said, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment executive director. “It’s one thing to tell young people the value of knowing how to spell or do simple math, but it’s something else for them to recognize how important it is to get it right when they’re preparing a letter for work or having to make change. It makes the classroom learning real.”
