Banner - University Medical Center Tucson Achieves Magnet recognition

Magnet recognition reflects the hospital’s nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care

TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 25, 2023) – Magnet recognition is the highest national honor for nursing excellence and on Jan. 24, 2023, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson joined the global community of Magnet-recognized organizations.

Banner – University Medical Center Tucson joins a small, select group of U.S. health care organizations to achieve Magnet recognition, with only 9.86% of hospitals in the US earning the designation, as of October 2022.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence which reflect the hospital’s nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care.

“We are very proud and appreciative to all our team members at our Banner Tucson campus who helped to achieve Magnet recognition which provides our community with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of patient care,” said Sarah Frost, CEO Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and Banner – University Medical Center South.

Banner – University Medical Center Tucson teams have been diligently working towards Magnet recognition. Recognition included Magnet appraisers visiting Tucson Campus for three days and speaking with over 150 nurses across disciplines including bedside staff, administrative and physician leaders. 

“There was an incredible amount of work completed to meet the stringent requirements for this designation, and we are very proud and appreciative to all our team members whose dedication made this recognition possible,” Angela Wright, chief nursing officer, Banner-University Medical Center Tucson and Banner-University Medical Center South.

Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and comprises various elements deemed essential to delivering superior patient care. Nursing excellence standards include the quality of nursing leadership, coordination, and collaboration across specialties, as well as processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care.
