Banner MD Anderson’s BIG Pink Bus at Bashas’ with mammograms

Partnership with supermarket and Breast Believe supports life-saving breast cancer early detection by bringing convenient screening directly to grocery stores across Phoenix area

PHOENIX (Sept. 30, 2025) – Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center's The BIG Pink Bus has been selected as one of Bashas' Family of Stores' October Charities of the Month and beneficiary of the pink-labeled bottled water program. This mobile mammography unit expands access to mammograms by eliminating access barriers and time constraints that many women cite as reasons for skipping their annual breast cancer screenings.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bashas’ will partner with The BIG Pink Bus to increase the number of breast cancer screenings performed in Arizona. In addition, Bashas’ and Food City shoppers can support access to these life-saving screenings by:

  • Donating to the Banner Health Foundation at the register at any Bashas’ and Food City locations across Arizona
  • Purchasing pink-labeled bottled water at any Bashas’ or Food City location. A portion of each sale will be donated to The BIG Pink Bus

“The BIG Pink Bus would not be on the road today, bringing life-saving screenings to women across the Valley, without the generous partnership with Bashas’ that helped make this vision a reality,” said Emily Duran, outreach coordinator for The BIG Pink Bus at Banner MD Anderson. “By positioning our mobile mammography unit in familiar community locations, we're removing barriers and bringing healthcare directly to women's neighborhoods – making it easier than ever to get this essential screening."

The Bus will be actively providing screenings to the community at the following Bashas‘ and Food City locations every Wednesday throughout October.

For women who have health insurance, the screening mammogram will be billed to their respective insurance company. Patients with appointments on Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 who are uninsured will be covered by the Breast Believe Foundation, led by The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation, which aims to educate communities about early detection, prevention, symptoms, treatments, resources, and access surrounding a breast cancer diagnosis. A Banner Health Social Worker will be available to discuss financial assistance for uninsured patients with appointments on Oct. 15, 22 and 29.
