DAISY Award

We understand the compassionate care that you provide patients and their families as they experience a wide range of emotions while in the hospital. Whether you are helping a patient or family member celebrate new life, consoling during a loss or helping them get back to health, nurses are truly always there to provide physical, mental and emotional support. Nurses deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to their jobs.

What Is The DAISY Award?

The DAISY Award is the highest honor a nurse can receive. The award was established by the DAISY Foundation and honors the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day through their compassionate care and dedication to their role. This well-known recognition award is highly sought after in the nursing community. Over 4,800 health care facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 states participate in The DAISY Award Program.

History of The DAISY Award

The DAISY Foundation and Award were created by the family of Patrick Barnes. In 1999, Patrick was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with an auto immune disease. The care that Patrick and his family experienced while in the hospital sparked the idea after Patrick’s passing to create the DAISY Foundation. DAISY, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, recognizes the care that nurses provide as well as their education, training and experience. Who Can Receive The DAISY Award?

The DAISY Award is focused on nurse recognition. While only nurses or nurse-led patient-care teams can receive this award, anyone can nominate a nurse - from patients to family members to other nurses, physicians and staff members.

How to Nominate a Nurse

Banner Health believes in the value of recognition and  is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, so that our nurses have the opportunity to receive this special honor. Patients and their family members as well as nurses, physicians and employees may nominate a deserving nurse by submitting a nomination to the nursing leadership team. You may do this in one of two ways:

Each DAISY Award honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony and will receive a certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch.
