Infusion Therapy Services at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix

We understand how important it is to be close to the people you love when faced with a health issue. That is why Banner University Medical Center - Phoenix offers intravenous (IV) therapies right here close to home. Our medical team is specialized and has many years of experience in infusion therapy. We provide a caring and compassionate environment to ensure a positive patient experience. Our Adult Outpatient Infusion Services include Outpatient Infusion Center and the Sickle Cell Clinic to meet the needs of health issues in the Phoenix area. Our team of medical staff strive to offer comprehensive, personalized, and healing therapies. 

Adult Outpatient Infusion Therapy

Banner University Medical Center – Phoenix features the Central Valley’s most experienced and advanced Infusion Center, offering an ever-increasing list of high-quality adult services. Our modern unit provides reclining chairs with individual televisions and a view of a beautiful healing garden. Our nurses are chemotherapy validated, infusion certified and our staff is dedicated to excellent patient care.  We also participate in drug research studies through the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute. Our staff takes care of the prior authorization with your insurance for your referring physician.

Our outpatient services include:

  • Biologic therapy (biological response modifiers, monoclonal    antibodies)
  • Blood product transfusions
  • Central line maintenance and blood draws
  • Chemotherapy
  • Diagnostic testing including arginine stimulation, cortisol stimulation, growth hormone, glucose tolerance
  • Injections including anti-asthma immunologic agents, B12, blood- modifying agents, colony-stimulating factors, vaccines
  • Antibiotics including intineoplastics for non-cancer diagnosis, bisphosphonates, electrolyte replacement, hydration, immune globulin, iron, steroids
  • Therapeutic phlebotomy

Our team of registered nurses (RN) is knowledgeable in the use and care of central lines and peripheral line placement.

Sickle Cell Clinic

At Banner – University Medical Center – Phoenix, our Sickle Cell Clinic helps you and your family with the urgent needs that comes with Sickle Cell disease. We advocate for understanding, education, and provide services exclusive to your complex disease.

Our Adult Same Day Sickle Cell Clinic offering prompt management of your pain. We directly admit individuals to our hospital with complications requiring more intense care. Our staff will develop care plans for pain crisis and/or daily pain that are specific to you. Some other services include:

  • Advocate if hospitalized and assist with misconceptions
  • Offer education of disease and new therapies
  • Assist with referrals to specialist or establishing with primary providers
  • Partner with your hematologist to offer the best care
  • Help to reduce the stressful daily problems
  • Offer hydration before and after travel
  • Coaching to improve your health by reducing the injury caused by sickle cell crises
  • Infusion therapies and services are pre-authorized by our team

Our team includes a Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses, and a Medical Assistant.  Our services include full access to the hospital amenities including laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, respiratory, music therapy, pet therapy, and chaplain services.

A visit to our clinic starts with a meeting with our Nurse Practitioner. The nurses will use an ultrasound to place peripheral access or sterile technique to access your port. Blood samples are collected to determine the severity of your pain crisis and proper treatment. Your therapy may vary from 4 hours or up to 10 hours depending on your blood results, symptoms, and pain levels.

If you are experiencing a pain crisis (vascular occlusive crisis) or symptoms of severe tiredness (anemia), we require that you have someone bring you to our clinic and arrange a ride home.  We do not want you driving with severe pain on the day of treatment.  We can help you arrange lift services with your insurance.
