Crisis Lines vs. Warm Lines

What is the Difference?

Crisis Hotlines are available for people who are in a behavioral health crisis and need immediate support.

A behavioral health crisis is when a person’s behavior, thoughts or moods may:

  • Put them at risk of harming themselves or someone else
  • Prevent them from taking care of themselves
  • Make them unable to cope with what is going on
  • Make them unable to function within their community

Warm Lines are available to call for people and families who are not in a crisis but need mental health support. Warm lines are typically staffed by trained peer or family advocates, those who have experienced mental health conditions themselves. They can:

  • Provide emotional support
  • Connect you to support services and resources
  • Help prevent a behavioral health crisis
