Banner Health and the University of Arizona

Ten years ago, Banner Health and the University of Arizona came together with a bold vision: to transform health care in Arizona. Our shared mission is to strengthen health care delivery, advance medical education and accelerate clinical research.

A decade of impact

Expanding access to care: Each year, more than 1,300 residents and fellows train across 80+ programs and six hospitals, including rural training tracks. Together, we’ve built one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the nation.

Capital investment: Banner has invested nearly $2 billion in Banner - University Medicine capital projects, creating some of the most advanced health care facilities in Arizona.

Advancing specialty care: We’ve recruited nationally recognized talent and developed cutting-edge tools and research to deliver comprehensive cancer services, the highest-rated heart transplant program and groundbreaking neuroscience advancements.

Driving discovery: Through 600 joint clinical trials, we’ve pioneered new treatments and medical technologies that are changing patient outcomes.

New study on economic impact of partnership

In addition to the partnership’s significant impact on academic medicine and health care delivery, a new study by the Rounds Consulting Group reports that the collaboration has also generated more than $59 billion in economic impact to the state of Arizona including sustaining 35,500 annual operating jobs and 12,600 temporary construction jobs and training nearly 2,000 new physicians.
