COVID-19 Cost of Services FAQs

It is important to not delay testing or treatment for COVID-19 if you have concerning symptoms. You may be wondering what these services cost or how they will be paid for. Here are some common questions and answers related to cost and billing.

Will my insurance provider cover the cost of my COVID-19 vaccine?

The COVID-19 vaccine itself is currently provided to Banner Health by the United States government and the cost will not be billed to patients or insurance providers. Banner Health will bill the insurance provider for the cost associated with administering the COVID-19 vaccine, and while many insurance companies will not pass any financial responsibility to the patient, that is at the discretion of the insurance provider.

Will I have to pay for the COVID-19 vaccine if I do not have insurance?

Banner Health will not turn anyone away from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine if they are uninsured or ineligible for government assistance programs such as Medicaid.

I have insurance and only received a COVID-19 test, do I have to pay?

Banner will not collect payment on the front-end. The doctor, hospital or lab will bill the insurance company for the COVID-19 test. Your insurance company may waive the copay at their discretion.

Will my insurance provider cover my COVID-19 test if I’m an asymptomatic individual that has not been in close contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19?

Insurance providers can deny coverage and bill the patient if they deem the service is outside of their benefit coverage or is not found medically necessary based upon their requirements for the test. We do not want to deter our patients from testing, so we will not be collecting for test only visits at the point of care. If you do receive a bill for your COVID-19 test, we ask that you contact your insurance provider to discuss your coverage options. If the insurance provider denies payment, Banner will attempt to resolve with the insurance on the patient’s behalf.

Will I be billed if I have insurance and had a COVID-19 related telehealth appointment?

Banner will not collect payment on the front-end. The doctor, hospital or lab will bill the insurance company for the COVID-19 test. The patient’s insurance company may waive the copay at their discretion. Any additional services received will be billed to your insurance.

What if I only receive a COVID-19 test but don’t have insurance?

Banner’s self-pay rate for a COVID-19 test is $75. Banner will not deny patients based on their ability to pay. Any additional services rendered will be billed at Banner’s normal self-pay rates.

How much do I have to pay if I don’t have insurance and have a COVID-19 related telehealth appointment?

Banner’s telehealth service rate is based upon the services you receive. You will receive our self-pay discount.

What if I have a telehealth appointment that’s unrelated to COVID-19?

Banner’s telehealth service rate is based upon the services received as well as the individual’s insurance coverage. Uninsured patients will receive Banner’s self-pay discount.

How much will I be billed if I receive a COVID-19 test and additional services?

Any additional services will be billed at normal rates and will vary depending on your insurance plan.
