Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from the flowers, bark, leaves, roots, or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. It can be a natural alternative and compliment to other health treatment options such as certain prescribed medications. While aromatherapy does not cure major illnesses, it can help to relieve many of the side effects and/or discomforts associated with them.

At Banner Health, we provide aromatherapy to our patients to help with a wide variety of issues related to hospitalization and treatment. The oils can be applied during a hand or foot massage or the mixture can be placed on a cotton ball or a piece of gauze so the patient can breathe in the soothing remedies.

Aromatherapy uses pure oil distilled from a plant rather than synthetic scents that people can be allergic or sensitive to. The inhaled aroma from these essential oils can reduce anxiety, nausea and pain relief or enhance mood and increase cognitive function.
