Pediatric Ophthalmology

Seeing the world through a child’s eyes is something we feel privileged to experience every day, and that extends to care and treatment for children’s eyes. Our Banner Children’s specialists offer a variety of eye care services tailored to kids. We evaluate, treat and manage a wide range of visual problems and ophthalmic diseases.

What Is Pediatric Ophthalmology?

Pediatric ophthalmology is the study of eye diseases, visual development and vision care in children and young adults. At Banner Children’s, we evaluate and manage visual problems that can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses, conduct eye surgery for general and complex eye problems and provide inpatient and outpatient evaluation of premature infants.

How Are These Conditions Treated?

Once your child has a diagnosis, your doctor can determine the next steps when it comes to treatment options. Depending how common or complex your child’s condition is, treatment options may include:

  • Laser treatment
  • Surgery
  • Cryotherapy (the use of extreme cold)
  • Medication
  • Eye drops

Talk to your pediatrician and pediatric ophthalmologist to find out which options work best for you and your child. Some options like surgery may seem scary so it’s important to prepare your child before the procedure, if needed.
