There are many diseases which cause end stage lung disease and a transplant should be considered when you are no longer responding to the medical therapy being prescribed by your physician. Patients receiving lung transplants can be as young as 18 and as old as 65 depending on their disease process.
A lung transplant can be performed with 1 donor lung which is considered a single transplant or both donor lungs which is considered a double lung transplant.
