Gastric bypass surgery, also called Roux-en-Y, is a procedure in which your doctor will “bypass” most of your stomach and the upper portion of your small intestine. While less common, Lap-BAND, also called laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, is a procedure in which your doctor places an adjustable silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach, limiting the amount of food consumption and slowing the passage of food to the intestines.
