Undiagnosed Breast Clinic

An abnormal result discovered on breast imaging or finding an unexplained lump, mass or new changes in your breast can raise questions, particularly if you're at elevated risk for breast cancer. The compassionate team at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center understands that when it comes to the question of whether breast cancer might be the cause, answers can't come quickly enough.

Banner MD Anderson's Undiagnosed Breast Clinic brings together a multidisciplinary team of breast cancer specialists within an expedited care model that gets you the answers you need. If a diagnosis of breast cancer is made, our expert breast cancer team will create an individualized treatment plan. No matter your diagnosis, we'll be by your side every step of the way.

What Is the Undiagnosed Breast Clinic?

The Undiagnosed Breast Clinic provides expedited evaluation following an abnormal mammogram, discovery of a breast lump or new abnormal breast findings: redness, skin thickening, nipple discharge, asymmetry or unexplainable focal pain. With a referral from your doctor or a self-referral, an appointment with our multidisciplinary breast cancer team can be arranged. Our breast cancer specialists will arrange all necessary diagnostic testing to provide you with a diagnosis.

If a diagnosis of breast cancer is made, an appointment will be made with a team of experts who specialize in the treatment of breast cancer. This approach shortens the time from suspicion of cancer to diagnosis to treatment so you can get the customized treatment you need as quickly as possible.

What Types of Procedures and Surgeries Are Included in This Program?

Our breast cancer specialists will arrange all necessary diagnostic testing, which may include a diagnostic mammogram, MRI, ultrasound, biopsy and other tests, ensuring timely care and attention.

If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, a wide range of treatment options are available based on your individual diagnosis and personal needs. You will immediately be enrolled in the appropriate breast cancer program based on your individual treatment plan.

If your diagnosis is not cancer but you still have concerns, you may be referred to the High-Risk Breast Cancer Clinic or to a genetic counselor. If needed, future evaluation may be recommended.

Who Makes Up the Multidisciplinary Team?

The caring team of health care providers at the Undiagnosed Breast Clinic may include a breast surgeon, or an advanced practice provider (APP) that works directly with the breast surgeon. The breast surgeon or APP also collaborate with breast fellowship trained radiologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists to review your diagnostic imaging and findings during your appointment to formulate the best plan of care for you. No matter your diagnosis, the depth of experience of our multidisciplinary team contributes to every aspect of your care.
