What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Uterine Cancer?

Signs and symptoms may vary based on the patient and type of uterine cancer. One of the earliest signs of uterine cancer is abnormal bleeding. Our experts at Banner MD Anderson can diagnose your type of uterine cancer and provide you with the information you need to stay healthy and provide treatment and support when you need it.

Early Warning Signs of Uterine Cancer

Detecting these early warning signs could help catch uterine cancer early on. If you are having any of the following symptoms, reach out to your doctor today:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormal discharge
  • Spotting or bleeding between periods
  • Weight loss

Other Common Signs of Uterine Cancer

While spotting or bleeding is the first possible sign of uterine cancer, consider these common signs as well:

  • A mass in the vagina
  • Pain near the abdomen
  • Frequent urination

While these symptoms can be warning signs for uterine cancer, they do not always mean you have uterine cancer. Schedule an appointment with your doctor to determine an accurate diagnosis.

When to See a Doctor

If you are experiencing these symptoms, consider scheduling an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Types of Uterine Cancer

There are two main types of uterine cancers: endometrial and uterine sarcoma. Uterine cancer is not to be confused with cervical cancer, which occurs in the cervix.

Endometrial cancer

The most common uterine cancer is endometrial cancer which forms in the uterus lining.

Uterine Sarcoma

Uterine sarcoma is a rare type of uterine cancer that forms in muscles and tissues of the uterus. Uterine sarcoma can be diagnosed further into uterine leiomyosarcoma and endometrial stromal sarcoma. The difference between these two is that uterine leiomyosarcoma starts in the wall of the uterus while endometrial stromal sarcoma starts in the connective tissue.
