Dr. Allan Anderson serves as the Medical Director of the Toole Family Memory Center at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Tucson, Arizona, where he proudly leads a dedicated clinical and research team that fully embraces the mission of setting a new national standard for comprehensive patient and family care.

Dr. Anderson was instrumental in opening the J. Orin Edson Lewy Body Dementia Center, which focuses on state-of-the-art comprehensive treatments for Parkinson’s Disease Dementia and Dementia with Lewy Bodies. In addition, Dr. Anderson has an appointment in the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Arizona as a clinical assistant professor.

Prior to joining Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, Dr. Anderson served as Vice President of Dementia Care at the Copper Ridge Institute in Maryland. During this time, he had an academic appointment at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and worked on clinical trials with Hopkins’ dementia specialists.

Dr. Anderson is a graduate of New Jersey Medical School, where he also completed a residency in psychiatry. He became board-certified in geriatric psychiatry in 1991. Later in his career, Dr. Anderson attended graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2015, he received the Master of Medical Management degree through the Heinz School of Business.

Dr. Anderson has won multiple awards, including the esteemed American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Clinician of the Year award in 2014. He has also been awarded a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Distinguished Fellow of the Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Clinician. Dr. Anderson has been active in the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry for many years, serving on the Board of Directors and as the organization’s Secretary-Treasurer and as President in 2011 and 2012.
