Senior Director, Alzheimer’s Prevention & Research
Dr. Jessica Langbaum is Senior Director of Alzheimer’s Prevention and Research at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute. She is also Director of the National Institutes of Health-funded, statewide Arizona Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and co-lead of its Outreach, Engagement, and Retention Core.
She co-leads the Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative (API), an international collaborative program launched in 2009 at Banner Alzheimer’s. She oversees the Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry and its GeneMatch program, and serves in a leadership role in the API’s clinicals trials.
Her research focuses on three interconnected themes: 1) designing and overseeing Alzheimer’s prevention trials for cognitively unimpaired adults at high risk for dementia; 2) developing, testing and implementing novel scalable approaches to communicate Alzheimer’s genetic and biomarker results; and (3) improving participant recruitment and retention into Alzheimer’s-focused studies, including leading registries with the goal of accelerating enrollment into clinical trials via evidence-based communication methods.
She serves as Principal Investigator for several clinical trials and NIH-funded programs.
She is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, and a Core Faculty member of the IMPACT-AD comprehensive training program focused on clinical trials for Alzheimer’s and related dementias. She serves on multiple advisory boards, including the NIA's Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias National Recruitment and Retention Strategy for Clinical Research Steering Committee and the Governance Committee for AARP’s Global Council on Brain Health.
She is also a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Prevention of Alzheimer's Disease and serves as a grant reviewer for the NIH and other major funding organizations.
Dr. Langbaum has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Phoenix Business Journal’s "40 under 40," Fifty Most Influential Women in Arizona Business and the Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Foundation Outstanding Young Investigator Award.
Dr. Langbaum received her bachelor's degree in neuroscience and psychology with high honors from Oberlin College and her PhD in psychiatric epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
