Inpatient Behavioral Health Care

Back To Behavioral Health & Mental Health

Support, safety and hope when you need it most

A mental health crisis can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. When symptoms become unmanageable or safety is a concern, inpatient psychiatric care provides immediate support in a therapeutic and structured environment.

At Banner Health, our teams deliver 24/7 care that focuses on stabilization, skill-building and preparing you for continued healing. Our goal is to help you return home feeling safer, supported and ready for next steps in treatment.

If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

For 24/7 confidential support, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

What is inpatient admission?

Inpatient behavioral health admission provides short-term, around-the-clock care for adults and adolescents who need intensive support to stay safe and manage severe symptoms.

Most stays are 3–7 days, depending on individual needs. During your time with us, you will:

  • Focus on emotional and physical stabilization
  • Participate in therapies that support recovery
  • Learn skills to manage symptoms and triggers
  • Plan next steps for ongoing care

Our approach prioritizes dignity, comfort and collaboration with family or trusted support people when appropriate.

Adult inpatient mental health services

Our adult inpatient units provide a supportive environment for people experiencing:

  • Severe anxiety or depression
  • Suicidal thoughts or crisis
  • Bipolar or personality disorders
  • Substance use and mental health conditions (co-occurring disorders)
  • Psychosis or significant changes in thinking or behavior

Care may include:

  • Psychiatric evaluation and medication management
  • Psychotherapy and therapeutic groups
  • Medical detoxification and stabilization (when needed)
  • Supportive peer and family programming
  • Structured discharge planning

We work closely with each patient to create a personalized plan for recovery.

Adolescent inpatient services (ages 13–17)

Our adolescent behavioral health programs provide compassionate treatment for teens facing:

  • Mood and anxiety disorders
  • Substance use concerns
  • Trauma-related symptoms
  • Risk of harm to self or others

Teens receive:

  • Individual, group and family therapy
  • Skills training such as DBT-based coping techniques
  • Support for school continuity where available
